Approximately 80% of New Orleans was flooded to depths exceeding fifteen feet after Hurricane Katrina made landfall in 2005. In response, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) established the 100-year Level of Protection Program to have floodwall protection in place by June 1, 2011. As the lead of the St. Bernard Levee Partners (SBLP), URS is providing eight miles of levee improvements and floodwall construction on the levee section Lake Pontchartrain and Vicinity (LPV) 146 in St. Bernard Parish. This time-sensitive and mission-critical project is currently improving hurricane safeguards in an effort to better protect the citizens and businesses of the Greater New Orleans area.
